Dr. John Whitehead, DO offers gender affirming female-to-male surgery in Florida. Dr. Whitehead was trained in the art of FTM surgery by Dr. Harold Reed, who practiced at The Reed Center for decades before recently retiring.
Dr. Whitehead is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery in both surgery and critical care. He has extensive training in vascular surgery and spent many years working as a trauma surgeon, performing thousands of life-saving as well as cosmetic procedures.
Along with his husband Dr. Alain Ramirez, a Yale-trained anesthesiologist, Dr. Whitehead opened Restore Medical Center to give back to the community. As a gay couple, they understand the importance of providing a safe space along with respectful health care.
Dr. Whitehead offers the following procedures for trans masculine individuals:
- Top Surgery: Double Incision with or without nipple grafts, Peri-areolar, Inverted-T, Buttonhole and Keyhole.
- Hysterectomy: Total Laparoscopic and Abdominal
- Scrotoplasty with Testicular Implants
Exact pricing can only be determined following a consultation. Cash, credit cards, certified check, insurance, and medical financing are accepted. Dr. Whitehead does not accept Medicaid or Medicare at this time.
Dr. Whitehead's private outpatient surgical facility is closed to other patients on your day of surgery, ensuring your privacy and comfort. The facility is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities.
Surgery Requirements
Dr. Whitehead is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and follows WPATH criteria for surgery. You will need to provide one referral from a qualified mental health professional for Top Surgery, and two letters for Hysterectomy or genital procedures. Dr. Whitehead can recommend a therapist who can provide a letter for a $300 fee.
