Is there anyone here on Medicare or Medicaid? I am on disability and have both, and even though they both go by the AMA standards for alleviating gender dysphoria, they don’t always pay for certain things, ie, chest reconstruction.
I’m seeing Dr. Tobias in Boston and he said that Medicaid doesn’t always pay for the reconstruction. How on earth does an ordinary mastectomy, without liposuction or nipple replacement, alleviate gender dysphoria in a transman? I’d be walking around looking like a woman with a double mastectomy... Hello?

I'm going to be honest. You're better off joining Susan's Place and asking there. Its a forum for transgender people, crossdressers and more. This forum doesn't seem to be as active as SP. I'm Ryuichi13 on there as well.

I've not had top surgery yet, but I've started my research for it. I've found all kinds of information on it on youtube, tumblr, and transbucket. And no, I don't work for SP, I just don't mind telling people about it since it helped me SO very much. The people there are nice, informative, and I've even asked questions about bottom intimacy. So try your luck there and ask the same question.

From what I've researched, you do NOT look like a "woman with a double mastectomy," you look like a man with some scars after top surgery.

And for the record, I'm also curious about Medicare, since I too am on it.

Thing is, it would cost me $1500 for the reconstruction, which is resizing and putting nipples back on (grafting). If Masshealth doesn’t pay that, I’m walking around with dog ears and no nipples! If it is supposed resolve gender dysphoria, that won’t cut it! You know? I will go to Susan’s place and ask.

I believe Medicare covers it. But not all of it. MassHealth is my secondary, since I have been disabled for twenty years, but the surgeon isn’t sure MassHealth will cover it.

MediCare... As long as the doctor deems it necessary than it's approved and Medi-cal will pick up second part ... I was shocked I didn't have to get approval from insurance company.

Pardon me for bumping this post, but suggesting and linking to another trans site site such as Susan's, while not specifically against the site's guidelines that I can see, is nevertheless rude and hardly helps Joshua in maintaing this forum. I belong to several transgender fora, some of which I'm on staff, but would never suggest someone go elsewhere, especially when it would lead to a dwindling of an otherwise vibrant community for trans men and their allies.
