Hi, I'm Noah. New around here. I'm looking for a good surgeon, for all kinds of surgery, actually.

But I need to do top surgery first, so I guess I can start there.
Out of state is okay, but in-state is preferred. I'm in Tacoma, WA.

I'm on state insurance, which I don't think covers Transitional surgery, but I would love if it did. So naturally, I need a good-priced surgeon. I don't have any money either, so I'll need funding as well, LOL.

Any advice or help? Outpatient services would be cool, less expensive. I don't think I really have any real health complications that can get in the way.

I don't have a gofundme set up yet, I'm planning on coming out to everyone I know before that, since that's the first step of my transition.

Thank you for your help.

Thanks for posting, Noah!

You have some very good surgeons nearby in Seattle, and there's another down near Olympia. You can find surgeons using this map:
http://www.topsurgery.net/surgeons/

You can find information about medical financing and grants for top surgery here: http://www.topsurgery.net/costs/top-surg...ancing.htm

Also check out this fund raising article, which has some tips for crowdfunding: http://transguys.com/features/surgery-fundraising

In Washington, Medicaid offers hormonal therapy and mental health services but not gender reassignment surgery, however that policy is under review as of this past June. To stay on top of this, you may want to subscribe to the genderjusticeleague.org's newsletter.

I hope this helps!

UPDATE, AUGUST 11: Victory! Apple Health (medicaid) Announces Final Trans Health Coverage – furthest state so far!

At the Gender Odyssey conference last month, Dr. Mangubat mentioned in his presentation that he has been in communication with Apple Health about accepting it for Top Surgery.

I just had double incision top surgery yesterday with Dr. Art Foley in Olympia (~45min drive south from NE Tacoma.)

Like most top surgeries now-a-days, it was an outpatient procedure. I got there at 6:30am (early, but worth it), was under anesthesia by 7am, and left a couple hours later. Not sure exactly when I left since I don't even remember waking up or walking out of the office (this is just my reaction to general anesthesia, not anyone's fault.)

The all-inclusive cost was around 5k I think. If you want the exact cost and how much the cash discount is and everything let me know and I'll get it for you. But right now the papers are downstairs and I am upstairs in bed.

The main thing I like about him is that he only cuts into the fatty tissue, leaving the muscle alone. This eliminates the need for drains and reduces pain and recovery time.

His portfolio looks great, and he checks out when it comes to surgical boards, employment history, and all that jazz. (My mom checked, if there was anything questionable in his professional history, she would have found it.)

I cant personally testify to his results just yet, but if you want I'll have before and after pics on tuesday. Smile

Thank you for the review! And no, you don't have to get out of bed for the papers downstairs, lol.

Yes, typically the chest muscles are not touched at all in Top Surgery. Drains seem to be a surgeon-by-surgeon preference. (I'm not aware of any research regarding drains and Top Surgery.)

Anyway, congrats, and rest up!
