Dr. Mang Chen, MD is a Reconstructive Urologist who is an expert in FTM Bottom Surgery. Dr. Chen has performed hundreds of Phalloplasty, Metoidioplasty and related surgeries, and has earned a stellar reputation in the trans community for his knowledgeable and compassionate care.
Dr. Chen completed his medical degree and general and urology training at the University of Pittsburgh. Additionally, he completed a fellowship in urologic trauma and reconstruction. He joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh as an assistant professor of reconstructive urology, and later moved to California to specialize in FTM Bottom Surgery.
Dr. Chen is board-certified by the American Board of Urology and is a member of multiple surgical associations and societies, including the American Urological Association, the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons, the American Society of Gender Surgeons and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).
Dr. Chen performs the following FTM Bottom Surgery procedures:
- Phalloplasty – Radial Forearm Flap (RFF) & Anterolateral Thigh (ALT)
- Penile Implant Surgery - Semi-rigid and inflatable implants
- Metoidioplasty - Simple Release & Full Meta
- Scrotoplasty & insertion of Testicular implants
- Reconstructive Urology: Fistula and stricture repair surgeries.
Dr. Chen's Phalloplasty team includes Reconstructive Microsurgeons Dr. Bauback Safa and Dr. Andrew Watt. Surgeries are performed at the California Pacific Medical Center.
Surgery Requirements
- Two referrals from qualified mental health professionals.
- A letter from your hormone specialist stating you have been on 12 months of continuous hormones, unless clinically contraindicated.
- 18 years of age or older.
Insurance & Medicaid
Blue Shield, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Cigna, Kaiser and Health Net, as well as Medicaid (Medi-Cal) are all accepted. Insurance companies not listed here may also be accepted; please inquire. A cash pay rate can also be requested.
