MSP Coverage for Metoidoplasty - james g - 01-27-2013
I've heard that MSP (in BC) will now cover phalloplasties by Dr. Broussard in Montreal, but not any confirmation of metoidoplasty by Dr. B. Perhaps someone can shed some light on this. Is a meta covered? Also, I have heard that only five people per year for five years are to be covered under MSP. In addition it only covers the cost of surgery and not travel to and from Montreal, or accommodation there.
I am personally interested in a metoidoplasty.

James, YES, metoidioplasty is covered now by British Columbia MSP. Everything else you've heard is correct. In addition to traveling for surgery, I'm pretty certain that Dr. Brassard requires you to go to Montreal for a consultation as well, so that's two trips to cover.
If you've already requested coverage for lower surgery from MSP (and been declined) you're on the waiting list. If you haven't, then you'll need to have your doctor write a letter to MSP requesting coverage. Hope this helps!
