Phallo with Schecter - ALT - jxman23 - 04-10-2015 Has anyone had Phallo with Schecter? I'm in my final stages before my therapist writes my letter. I'm curious about people's actual experiences (either with Schecter or any other Dr), sensation, functionality for intercourse and any other things that I may not have found in my research. I decided on ALT because of the scars and I have two full sleeve tattoos on both arms that are special to me. The most important factor was post-op sensation which I've read ALT is the second best place for sensation. Is this accurate? is there a way to increase sensation Prior to surgery? Finally, Can anyone tell me their opinions on attaching the clitoral nerve vs placing the phallus over it and leaving the clitoris exposed under the phallus - I've only seen this done a few times and it doesn't seem very useful. Is this true? Thanks guys RE: Phallo with Schecter - ALT - Joshua - 04-13-2015 I've spoken with Dr. Schechter about ALT phalloplasty. Initially, he was not offering this procedure, preferring RFF and MLD. I'm not sure what prompted the change but now he is offering ALT. There really hasn't been enough research done to establish which procedures really have the "best" sensation, but RFF is preferred in this regard. (If you touch your inner arm lightly with a finger and compare that sensation to what you feel on your leg you'll probably notice more sensation in the arm.) You can find journal articles on the topic here: Phalloplasty Studies I'm not aware of ways to prepare for surgery that would increase sensation. Being in general good health is advised, obviously, but I haven't heard of specific ways to improve nerve growth. With a microsurgical approach, there's no need to expose the clitoris. With ALT and other microsurgical phalloplasties, the nerves from the graft are connected to one (sometimes two) of the main nerve branches in the clitoris. Leaving the clitoris exposed is typically an option with non-microsurgical phalloplasties, such as abdominal or groin flap. Hope this helps! Yes, at this point I am hoping to have surgery with Dr. Crane in Austin. If that's not possible for some reason, I will consider Dr. Schechter and Dr. Monstrey. I didn't go to Schechter however I did have ALT so I will chime in. Personally having had ALT phalloplasty and comparing results of sensation to those who were in the same range post op as me who have had RFF I have more sensation than they do at almost 9 months. For a few I had more sensation than they did at well over a year. So I think it's some what a myth more speculation that RFF has better sensation. Also due to the lack of research done on ALT I also believe their is a major gap on the accurate information displayed on its healing and results I think it would be better accurate to say sensation in both ALT and RFF are based more so on the persons nerve regeneration. Some folks nerves regenerate slowly or not at all, there is no accurate way to tell what will and won't happen. Also to my knowledge there is no way to really increase sensation however keeping your body healthy and your blood flow well oxygenated is the best you can do. Stay healthy and eat right. As well make sure you are of exact weight that is ideal for this surgery. Many do not realize if your thigh is too fatty you are not an ideal candidate for ALT so definitely be very very careful about that. My natal penis was buried into my phallus and nerves were connected I believe he got 3 in my case (one massive one and two smaller ones). The way crane preforms the ALT phalloplasty the phallus is never severed from the blood supply thus eliminating almost 100% the change of full flap failure completely. Last I checked Cranes flap failure is 3%, and that being only partial flap loss that was able to be corrected with revisions. He has not lost any phallus thus far. I chose to bury things because I saw no point of leaving any traces it would have made me extremely dysphoric. The way it is buried is excellent, my penis literally just feels like it got longer. Every day I touch a new spot and it feels like I'm just rubbing the old junk which is totally amazing to me still even at this far out post op. From what I heard from my buddy who is well over 2 years post ALT he's even still gaining more sensation in places which has me absolutely thrilled. I'm starting to slightly feel heat which is also great it'll be great to feel warmth during sex. But leaving the bit exposed seems more beneficial in procedures that do not involve microsurgery. |
