US States MANDATING Insurance Inclusion - notyouraveragejoe - 02-11-2014
Hey guys,
So I see there are still a lot of guys out there unaware that 6 places within the US mandate insurance sold within that state or territory to cover Trans healthcare needs that are medically necessary!
Since this forum is here I will post this and leave it as something we can add on to as more states begin to join in on the inclusion.
California
Oregon
Colorado
Vermont
Connecticut
District Of Columbia
Hopefully in 2014 we will see more states added to this list.
Thanks to these states and territories mandating insurances sold within their borders to cover our care thousands of people are now able to get surgery they never before would have been able to afford.

UPDATE:
DC Is the first and only all inclusive territory for trans healthcare in the country. Private and public programs, including gov employees, open insurance on the healthcare market, private and business insurance, and medicaid now cover surgery! If it is regulated by DC then you will be covered!

Well if would definitely help if you were a bit more specific in terms of where you are, what insurance you are looking into, etc. For example I am in Northern CA, with that being said there are options of Medi-Cal, BCBS, Kaiser (which i have), and about 5-6 other private insurances which all mandated by state law have to include MEDICALLY NECESSARY Trans health care services.
Now say for instance you were in TX all the same plans maybe available BUT due to TX not yet mandating inclusive care you will most times then now buy into a plan that DOES NOT cover trans related care due to the exclusions they are still legally allowed to have in plans sold within those states. However if you have a job within TX that has one of said plans you have a 50/50 chance of they not having that exclusion BUT even if they did you have better chance of getting covered on case by case exception if you work close enough with HR and get Corp to submit an exception on your behalf. Which does work as I have seen with my own eyes this work and my buddy is sitting about 2 months post op phallo because of doing this exact things on a plan that excluded all transition related care.
I know for some this is NOT an option to open up to HR and Corp but to many others this is and by doing it this way you will pave a path for those behind you.

Add New York and you now have 10 jurisdictions banning insurance discrimination!

"New York becomes the 10th jurisdiction to ban health insurance discrimination against transgender people, joining California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Oregon, Vermont, Washington, and Washington D.C. In May, the federal government also ended its decades-long exclusion of coverage for transition-related surgery under Medicare."

Based off the little information you have provided that would be virtually impossible for me to answer as each company has their own criteria. So please if you do not mind may I know what insurance and what state you are in. These two things matt r in how you can go about doing things.
