My FTM 14 year old wants top-surgery. We live in Mass. My husband and I totally support him. He hopes to start T in January, with a wish to have top-surgery in the summer break (he will be almost 15). Our insurance (BCBS NJ) only covers top-surgery if he is 18 years old, and after 1 year of TAngry. We plan to appeal. Does anyone know of the success rate of appeals for FTMs this young. We will be able to demonstrate medical/psychological need.

The rate for successful appeals is very low to non-existent at this time. The guidelines are set in place and getting around them is hard to do. The longer your son is on testosterone the more his breasts will shrink which in turn means, possibly, better results or peri-areola.
